Country songs

I have been listening to a lot of country music lately – WHO AM I?

I have always been partial to Mr. Johnny Cash and Mr. Glen Campbell, but lately I have been expanding my ears with the likes of Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, and Patsy Cline, to name a few. Gillian Welch and Emmylou Harris too. Oh, and the Civil Wars are pretty good. And I really like that Kacey Musgraves – so catchy!

Friday night was Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, which was a lot of fun. No rain for the concert (breaking Arts Fest tradition), and the hippies were out in full force.

I also saw Jesus:

I went down there to celebrate my friend’s birthday and hang out with some other friends. I love concerts because you don’t have to fill up the space with conversation, and you can still bond with the people you are with. I think that live outdoor music is like a pig roast; you hover around it feeling hungry and happy and you just know that the people next to you are feeling the same way.

Speaking of food, it was Food Truck Friday downtown, so we were all over that. The lines were crazy (this was right before the concert), so we only had time to hit up two trucks. I tried some haluski from The Pierogie Truck, which I had never had before. I really wanted their sauerkraut pierogies, but they only cook the potato/cheese ones on the truck. Boo! Anyways, I had never had haluski before and I wasn’t really sure what it was, but in case you are wondering, it is egg noodles and cabbage that have been pan-fried in oil and butter. You can’t really argue with that.

Next we hit up Franktuary, which I’ve had before and enjoyed. I should start by saying that I’m not really a hot dog person, but on the rare occasion that I crave one, it’s nice to have a local, grass-fed option.

There are a couple more concerts I would like to hit up this week if I have time (Glen Hansard & Grupo Fantasma, maybe Airborne Toxic Event Saturday?), and I still have to visit the artist’s market. Fellow Pittsburghers, are you hitting this up?

I grocery shop once a week, and meal plan to the best of my ability – food wasting is an ultimate no-no in my eyes. Unfortunately, sometimes meal planning doesn’t always agree with my decisive tastes. I’m so stubborn! And high maintenance! Or a slave to my finicky appetite, you decide.

So………

Pancakes for dinner last night. I used this recipe, subbed butter for coconut oil, and ate the whole thing.

Then I had cereal for dessert.

I think the fact that I made the pancakes from scratch negates the fact that I ate pancakes and cereal for dinner as a 24 year-old adult. Yes?
