I apologize for my absence. I realize my last post was on July 27, but to me it hasn’t felt that long. I can’t believe I’ve been in Texas for over a week! Time has been flying, but that has a lot to do with the mountain of work that has been/is currently/will be involved in this move. I’m so glad that I have another two weeks before school and work start – I need them!
I thought I would take today and tomorrow to briefly recap my drive to Austin. If you recall, I left from Pittsburgh on July 27 and I arrived here on July 30, which ended up being 3.5 days on the road. I took some extra time on my drive to stop and see some places (and people!) along the way, which kept things interesting and fun. Breaking up the trip also helped me keep a handle on my pain (I also popped Aleve on the regular).
I’m going to be succinct with my recaps here; I hope you don’t mind. This was a very reflective and personal trip for me, and sharing my thoughts feels too overwhelming right now!
I stopped briefly in Columbus, OH mid-day, and made it to Cincinnati by early afternoon.
In Cincinnati, I visited the Freedom Center, a museum dedicated to the history of American slavery and emancipation, as well as other human rights issues. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
Then I unfortunately made a few bad decisions while I was exploring the city/looking for dinner, and I ultimately ended up hightailing it out of Cincinnati and heading towards my hotel in Kentucky.
I picked up dinner on the way – my very first Chipotle burrito experience.
I left my hotel in Sparta, KY in the early AM and drove through some Kentucky farm roads (beautiful) to Lexington. I met up with my pal Katie at the University of Kentucky Arboretum.
In the afternoon I hit up Nashville, where my first stop was Jack White’s record shop. Obvious.
Then I ventured to Millenium Park to see the Parthenon and to take another short walk through the flora.
Before I left town, I stopped for a cup of coffee at a place recommended to me by someone I met at the park whose name I do not remember. Regardless he knew his shit, because this hit the spot and it turned out to be a great place to relax before heading out.
That’s pretty much it for days 1 & 2! I’ll be back tomorrow , promise.
I hope that everyone is having a great week so far!
