Since I’ve been living on and off with my dad over the summer, I’ve picked up some new habits. Besides learning to love instant coffee (I’ll admit, I don’t miss cleaning the pot every day), I have also had to pick up some sports knowledge. Living with two sports nuts means that every evening is dedicated to some serious QT with ESPN, Root, or the Golf Channel. The last time I experienced a television routine was when I lived with three girls and that situation involved a whole lot of Kardashian and Teen Mom drama, so I’m not picky.
However, I realized that in order to better indoctrinate myself into my current place of residence, I needed to become a fan of either golf or baseball. Golf was/is not/never going to happen, so you know where this is going. I can now say I moderately enjoy baseball. It has a ton of rules, and I ask a lot of dumb questions, like:
“Why did he score when the other guy got out?”
“Why did that guy start to run somewhere and then turn around and run back?”
“What is an ERA?”
“Why do they wear those ropey necklaces?”
Yeah.

Anyways, I kind of like it. I like that tickets are cheap too. I took my dad to a game for his birthday and I went again on the Fourth of July.
PNC Park is really gorgeous. It also has pretty good beer.

In other news, I took the GRE on Saturday.
8am, at the Cathedral of Learning:
One of my favorite places in Pittsburgh – I hoped it would be good luck!
I have a lot of mixed feelings about how the test went. For the most part, I’m just relieved that it is over. I am pretty hard on myself in general, no matter what the outcome, so I feel like I could have done better. I may take it again; I may not. However, I received my verbal and math scores after the test was over, and I scored higher on verbal than I had in any of my practice tests, which was very exciting. I’ll have to wait to get my essay scores and percentile rank, which is more indicative of how I did, but for now I am putting it behind me.
I’ll admit, it will be a bit weird to not be studying this week!

Anyways, I hope you all had an excellent 4th and a great weekend. Here’s to a beautiful Monday!

Jam of the day: Beck “Soldier Jane”

yay for being DONEEEEEEEEEEE WITH THE GRE!! I definitely walked out of it thinking “I REALLY want to take this again!!”……..but I am so over it. DON’T CARE! Plus, in speaking with many profs, I have heard that they don’t even really look at it too much now-a-days! Who knows. YOU’RE ALL DONE THOUGH!
and I loveeeeeeeeee baseball in the summer! I don’t necessarily always follow the game when I go, but I do love spending time with friends in the sun, drinking some cold bevvys ,and people watching!
LOVE YOU! have a great week! i need to get instagram!
How did you learn to love instant coffee? It would make my life so much easier, but I can’t get into it!
Lara,
I tried a few brands, and I settled on TJ’s instant decaf. For me, I have to add way more than the instructions say, and then it doesn’t taste too bad.
Nothing beats fresh brewed though!
thats so funny because i learned to love it too when i was in New Zealand. it takes the right brand and a good balance of water/mix. Right?
Congrats on taking the GRE! That’s a big deal, congrats!
Tom is a major golf watcher and my family has always watched it, so I can tolerate that, but baseball on TV kills me. Going to games can be fun though. Cute butts
Glad the GRE is donezo! That building is really pretty! Baseball is much better in person. I play golf so I can tolerate it enough to watch for like 5 minutes haha
. Love the pictures.

Woo-hoo for finishing the GRE!! PNC Park really is stunning, love it!
Wow, so proud of you Susan, and so haps it’s behind you for the time being and hopefully all time! (Well worded). I’m sure your performance was stellar. Did I ever tell you about the stress-induced auditory hallucination I endured whilst taking the GRE? That’s right! We’ll reserve that story for a future convo. Love your spirit and self in total. Hope all is well
xo
P.S. Men and their sports!
Thank you my dear. You are so gracious.
I’m interested in doing a qualitative study comparing different sports subcultures. For example, the college sports subculture versus the middle-aged white-collar bachelor sports subculture. First, I denote the difference in drinks: Miller Lite versus Macallan 18.
