What’s up

Adventure is so beautiful. I’m glad you all loved yesterday’s quote as much as I did. I read it over the weekend and was like, “Preach, son!”. Lately my life feels like an adventure hiking across the Serengeti. It’s been arduous, enlightening, never-ending…and warm. Oh wait, that’s just the weather!

The adventure that I’m on right now has made blogging challenging. My schedule is so erratic these days and I no longer have my usual blog-school-work routine that I perfected over the last couple of years. I’ve been having trouble finding time to write and keep up with everything around me. In addition, I have a reverse case of writer’s block. I have so many things to write about, but I don’t know how. This blog has never been incredibly personal, and I have not yet figured out how to write about my experiences in a way that remains private yet worth reading.

I’m thinking of taking a leave of absence until I am able to (hopefully!) establish a more normalized routine. I’m also viewing this respite as a little experiment! I have blogged at least 6 days a week for the last two years because (a) I truly love sharing a bit of myself each day, and (b) I thrive on consistency. This will be a way for me to challenge my desire for routine and simultaneously reflect on the blogging process without engaging in it. I look forward to sharing my findings!

I will absolutely be back. I don’t know when. It could be this weekend for all I know, or it could be longer. That’s just the way my life is right now. Willy-nilly! Adventurous!

Love to all and talk to you soon,

Susan

Adventure!

Adventure is a path. Real adventure – self-determined, self-motivated, often risky – forces you to have firsthand encounters with the world. The world the way it is, not the way you imagine it. Your body will collide with the earth and you will bear witness. In this way you will be compelled to grapple with the limitless kindness and bottomless cruelty of humankind – and perhaps realize that you yourself are capable of both. This will change you. Nothing will ever again be black-and-white.

Park Bruges

I have been wanting to try brunch at Park Bruges for over a year. The major hiccup has been that Park Bruges is literally across the street from my favorite brunch spot in Pittsburgh. So, you know, I play favorites. However, yesterday my favorite place was closed, which meant that a meal at Park Bruges was my destiny. Right? Right.

I’ve been to their other location, Point Brugges, a long time ago and Park Bruges is a bit different. It seats about 60-70 max, so it’s relatively small (no TV at the bar FYI) but the decor is clean and contemporary.

Park Bruges has a killer menu. I had a lot of trouble ordering between the brunch offerings and the daily specials. I finally settle on eggs benedict – go big or go home!

The cups were teeny, but the coffee was good.

Eggs Benedict with Parma rosemary ham and chive hollandaise, with fruit.

Magnifique! This was my first time trying eggs Benedict and hollandaise sauce may be the best thing ever, and this coming from a girl who is picky with condiments/sauces. The eggs were perfectly poached, and I loved that it was served on a piece of buttered challah instead of an english muffin. However, I did think there was a little too much ham (there were maybe 3 slices, and I would have been okay with one). And boy, was it rich! I’m thankful I had some help in finishing it. No dirty plates allowed!

Another brunch success for Pittsburgh.

Happy Memorial Day!
