This is what I was going to say too! I get the wordpress e-mail notifications every time I get a comment, so I copy/paste the commenter’s e-mail next to the automatic reply address in the address bar. It’s an extra step, but worth it I think. People always say they appreciate the e-mail, plus as a reader I’m never one to go back to a blog and check.

I like when people respond to my comments via a response on my own post, simply because I never check the ‘notfiy me of follow up comments via email’ box because I don’t want it to end up flooding my inbox if someone starts a thread-type discussion. Email works too! If a lot of people are asking or saying the same thing, then a response via a post works really well for that.

But bottom line: It’s your blog. Do whatever you want.

I struggle with this too…sometimes I remember to do what Jessy said above and sometimes I just respond directly in the comments in hopes that people will see it. It’s tricky!

As a blog reader, I like it when bloggers respond to my comments, but often I don’t see it as most don’t have the notifications set up. To be honest, I’m more likely to comment if I expect a reply and a notification for it.
Here’s a tip: Reply directly via email (wordpress has this option, which publishes as a comment on your post), but forward the mail to the commenter (simply add their address besides the xyz@comment.wordpress.com).

I usually don’t come back to blogs after my original post, so I prefer email or a comment on my own blog. I’m sure to see the comments that way!

I have a hard time with that also. I want to respond to comments, but also don’t want to be too in a person’s face about it. But I also don’t want them to miss it.
