I just finished up my first week of summer classes back at school and whoa, is it completely different from the regular semesters!
First, the classes. As I’ve previously mentioned, the classes are about 100 minutes as opposed to 50 and they meet every day. They are also really condensed, which means a lot of information gets crammed into one lecture. I already have an exam tomorrow! However, the atmosphere is much more laid-back and it seems like the professors will be a bit more lenient with grading.
Second, the populace. During the school year, there are 60,000 students roaming the town. During the summer, this number drops drastically. Compared to how it usually is, it almost seems dead! No drunken knocks on the door at 2am, no waiting in line for 10 minutes at the library coffee shop. My roommates are mostly gone, and my friends are at home for the summer. It’s a bit lonely to be honest.
(The town isn’t dead though! It’s just less students and more families and young kids up here for visits and summer camps.)
Lastly, the nature. In spite of the rain this week, it is absolutely gorgeous up here. I find it really inspiring to be around the bright colors and the sounds and smells of summer time. It makes me happy.

So it’s been a weird week, mostly because it’s so different from what I’m used to up here. Yes, it is a bit lonely, but I’m not going to let that hold me back from making this summer amazing. I think the lack of people may be a good thing rather than a bad thing. It means I can work on these goals without distractions. I’ve already been doing better on the sleep and PT exercises, and I started a new book two days ago. Yee!
The more I think about it, summer is a great time to work on any type of goal we may have. There is usually a bit less going on, the vibe is more laid-back, and the beauty of nature is a huge motivator!
So tell me, do you have any project or target you’d like to take on this summer?
Jam of the day: Sam Cooke “Summertime”
I always wondered what summer classes are like. I’m glad you are doing good and adjusting to the new routine
Good job on your goals! I want to hear about this book.
My goal is to enjoy myself and be social this summer!
Summer classes are so intense!! We’ve had so much rain too but it has made everything so green, bright and pretty! Keep rockin the goals girl!

I always loved summer and summer classes at my university. I never went home to visit to I considered it my home and it felt more peaceful during the summer. I miss those days.
Good luck with your classes!
i think this is good for you! besides the lonely part which is not good haha but thats when you go home! but its good because you said you wanted/needed some peaceeeeeee
enjoy it lady! before it gets cuhrazed again!
Wow…summer classes already? It’s only May! Are things just starting earlier and earlier or what?
Everything you just described seems like a perfect summer school scenario. I love it when things are calmer and not so many people are around! It just kind of goes with the summer season for me. Enjoy my friend! Don’t feel lonely! You’ll be surrounded again before you know it.
Summer classes are TOTALLY different! The speed the classes move at is just incredible. Its kind of nice to have a more peaceful campus for a change
My big project this summer- my baby to be
and my garden!
I’ve got a veggie garden to keep me busy, and I’m painting a mural in my room! I can’t wait until school’s out so I can spend the whole day out in the sun!
I’m about to “announce” this on my blog…but my summer goals involve a series of cooking ‘challenges’ for myself.
I’m in summer classes right now and the fact that there is less people on campus AND the campus is gorgy with flowers makes me like it so much more than winter semester!
My big goal(s): Pass my certification tests in July :-/
I’m taking classes this summer too. I guess my goal is to pass my classes and complete my triathlon!
I’d also like to save a good lump of money!
