Trashy goodness and Oscar buzz

Lately I’ve been craving some trashy cheese. I don’t mean to stereotype cheese this way, but I don’t know how else to describe that deli counter, not-really-cheese cheese that I’ve had a hankering for. I’ve never been a big cheesehead, but occasionally we all desire foods outside of our normal fare. And food desires will always be honored here.

Honestly, I’m grateful that it’s trashy cheese that I wanted instead of the real deal. I don’t know of any non-dairy cheese that tastes like brie or real cheddar. You know it’s true!

To fulfill my craving, I had a tortilla pizza as part of my lunch yesterday.

Brown rice tortilla pizza with hummus, peppers, onions, and Daiya mozzarella.

Also, I went to see The Social Network last night with one of my roommates. I have to write a paper about Facebook  in a couple of weeks for my social psychology class. Plus, I’d like to see as many Oscar-nominiated movies as possible before the actual awards. Usually, I’m lucky if I’ve seen one! But it’s fun to have actually seen the films before they win.

We both really liked it. I’m not sure what was fact or fiction (I do know it was based off of a book and not a direct portrayal of Mark Zuckerberg’s life), but it was interesting watching the story of “The Facebook” unfold.

Any random cravings you’d like to share? And have you seen any Oscar-nominated films this year?

Randomnicity

Hello hello!

Can you believe it’s Sunday? I had all of my days mixed up this weekend. I think it’s because none of my roommates have classes on Fridays (I do!), and that usually throws off my internal calendar.

Anyways…

~

Maybe my screwy inner clock was part of the reason why yesterday was exceedingly random.

I went to Saint’s to get some work done after I woke up. I took breakfast with me, but I treated myself to a soy cappuccino.

Not so random, but my breakfast definitely was.

Leftover quinoa with garbanzo beans, raisins, and curry powder.

Random, I know. I think it was my first time having beans for breakfast, but I can’t guarantee it will be my last. Plus, it was nice to just grab a tupperware container out of the fridge and jet!

~

Okay, perhaps it’s not as random as this:

Yes, that would be a giant-sized whoopie cushion topped with an Oscar-the-Grouch head. On top of a car. It’s parked in a lot across from our windows. After staring at it for two days, we finally decided to check it out up close.

~

Not so random were my snacks from yesterday:

Apples, carrots, and peanut butter. Classic.

Frozen peanut flour truffles.

~

At the moment, there is a six-foot guy nicknamed “Turbo” sleeping on our couch. Random, but it’s a given that I’m blogging from my bedroom.

Cheers!

Peanut flour experiment #4

Once again, your comments have simply astounded me. It really is quite an intelligent and positive community we are all a part of. I love it!

It’s time to take a break from all of this talk of worries and get back to what’s really important in life: chocolate!

~

If nothing else, let chocolate distract you from your stress. It’s magic I tell you!

Plus every good food blogger needs a “ball” recipe, right? Katie and Averie, I’m looking at you two.

~

Peanut Flour “Truffles”

Makes 10 “truffles”.

  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup peanut flour
  • Heaping 1/4 cup almond milk (or milk of your choice)
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • Sweetener to taste (I used turbinado sugar)
  1. Mix together the ingredients. You may need to add a little more almond milk to get the right consistency. You’ll want it to feel like Play-doh.
  2. Roll the “dough” into balls. They shouldn’t be sticky, but wet your hands before if you need to.
  3. Eat up! (But I think they taste better after they’ve been refrigerated for a while.)

They have a fudgy texture and the taste reminds me of a dark chocolate truffle. Yum yum yum. I took a few to the library with me yesterday and enjoyed them with a thermos full of decaf.

Stay hip this weekend kids!
